Re-igniting the Tradition of African Storytelling
MASA Awards are about celebrating culture and practices through the power of storytelling. This initiative is designed to enhance Knowledge, Skills, and Appreciation of traditional storytelling in South Africa.
Since ancient times, storytelling in African culture has been a way of passing on cultural knowledge from one generation to the next. The awards aim to Re-ignite the Tradition of African Storytelling through the medium of indigenous language.
The Secondary aim is to encourage the documentation of important stories that will be lost when we lose the older generation to death. The official slogan is, “My Story, Your Story, Our Pride and Heritage”.
The focus for this year will be on the Stories narrated in the iSiSwati language. The top ten storytellers will be invited to the award ceremony and the winners will be announced in November at the award ceremony.
Stories must be submitted by 20th January 2025 by 12 midnight. The Top 20 stories will be selected and invited to a workshop for refinement and proceeds will be published in the form of a storybook.
